You know that moment when you’re driving, feeling totally in control, and suddenly—BEEEEP! A car appears from nowhere in your blind spot? Your heart races, you quickly adjust, and you wonder how you missed seeing it.
Your side business journey works exactly the same way.
You’re doing all the things—posting consistently on social media, crafting those offers you’re proud of, responding to every comment—but somehow, the traction just isn’t there.
The followers aren’t converting to clients. The sales aren’t rolling in like you expected. And the worst part? You can’t quite put your finger on why. So frustrating, right?
When you’re deep in the day-to-day hustle of your business, those blind spots naturally develop. It’s not your fault!
Maybe you’re missing what your audience is truly hungry for, or perhaps your message isn’t landing the way you think it is.
Sometimes we get so close to our own work that we can’t see what others see.
But here’s the good news, girlfriend—once you know what to look for, these blind spots become fixable!
Think of today’s newsletter as your business rear-view mirror adjustment.
Let’s shine some light on those hidden roadblocks so you can make those simple tweaks that’ll finally get that momentum flowing again. Because when you remove what’s blocking you, that’s when things really start to take off!
Ready to identify what might be holding you back? Let’s do this!
TL;DR
Your business might have blind spots if you’re not seeing the results you want. Step back, get outside input, and focus on aligning your message with what truly resonates with your audience.
What's Worth Your Time Right Now
Here are some tools to help you uncover and tackle blind spots in your business:
Deep Dive: How to Spot Blind Spots in Your Business
We all have blind spots in our side business! Let's talk about five common ones that might be holding you back right now.
1. You’re Assuming You Know What Your Audience Wants
You've spent time crafting what you think is the perfect content, but your audience isn't responding. There's often a gap between what we believe our audience wants and what they're actually looking for.
How to fix it:
- Send a simple question to your email list asking what they're struggling with right now
- Notice which of your posts people actually comment on and share – that's valuable information!
- Look for common themes in the questions people ask you directly
- Test different types of content (videos, stories, tips) and see what gets the most attention
2. You’re Overcomplicating Your Message
When someone asks about your business, do you start explaining and watch their eyes glaze over? When you're so deep in your own work, it becomes hard to talk about it in a way others quickly understand.
How to fix it:
- Challenge yourself to explain your business in one sentence a 10-year-old could understand
- Ask a friend outside your field to repeat back what your business does after you explain it
- Look at your website copy – if most sentences are over 15 words, simplify them
- Remove industry jargon from your marketing materials completely
3. You’re Overlooking Small Details That Matter
You've created an amazing offer and your content is valuable, but something's still off. Often, it's the small details that confuse visitors and make potential clients click away before they fully understand what you offer.
How to fix it:
- Ask a trusted friend to look at your website and tell you what confused them
- Think about your recent client conversations - did anything feel awkward or unclear?
- Check your social media as if you're seeing it for the first time - would you understand what you sell?
- Test how easy it is to contact you - can someone message you quickly without hunting for info?
4. You’re Not Asking for Enough Feedback
You’re working solo in your business bubble, making decisions based only on your perspective. Without outside input, it’s nearly impossible to see what’s keeping you stuck.
How to fix it:
- Join a mastermind group where you can share ideas and get honest input
- Reach out to past clients for quick 15-minute feedback calls
- Consider working with a coach who can offer that unbiased perspective
- Create a simple feedback form to send after working with clients
5. You’re Doing Too Much at Once
You’re juggling your day job, family responsibilities, AND trying to build a business on the side. With such limited time, spreading yourself too thin across multiple platforms and offers is a recipe for burnout and slow progress.
How to fix it:
- Choose ONE platform where your ideal clients already hang out and master it before adding another
- Streamline your offers - what’s the ONE solution your clients need most right now?
- Create content templates you can easily adapt instead of starting from scratch each time
- Block off specific “business hours” in your calendar - maybe Sunday evening after the kids are in bed or Tuesday night when your energy is highest
